Director of Finance & Controller

Location: Santa Monica, CA    Status: Full Time   Start Date: Immediate

Position Scope:  The Director of Finance & Controller will work closely with the executive team and CFO in driving the financial support function of the business.  This opportunity has room to grow within the organization through strong execution and development of the corporate financial infrastructure.  

Major Responsibilities:

Accounting and Corporate Administration

  • Working with our financial accounting support team, drive the daily, weekly and month processes, including, monthly financial reporting process, ensure consistent execution of accounts payable and accounts receivable processes.
  • Support the annual review and/or audit process, with the first US GAAP review starting for the current fiscal year.
  • Develop regular reporting cycles, including weekly cash flow reporting, sales and receivables reporting and other critical reporting to support the business processes.
  • Drive treasury management, legal and insurance processes, including cash management, insurance management, legal requirement driven the capital raise processes and other corporate legal requirements.
  • Follow up with staff and outside professionals on compliance with local, state, and federal government reporting requirements and tax filings.
  • Drive continuous cost improvement and control processes, drive cost savings throughout the business.
  • Maintaining a documented system of accounting policies and procedures.
  • Own the administrative and transactional processes with our PEO partner, including responsibility for management payments to all employees and contractors 

Finance and Decision Making

  • Analysis of cash flow- daily management of cash; short-term cash flow outlook; long-term cash flow outlook utilizing factories' production schedules and customer contract obligations.
  • Support CFO in regular Adhoc decision-making analysis
  • Support regular update of demanding planning and sales forecasting process
  • Support CFO in the creation and distribution of monthly/quarterly board reporting

YOUR Essential Qualifications

  • BA/BS Degree in Accounting and/or Finance
  • MBA or professional certification (CPA/CFA) preferred
  • A minimum of 8 years of experience in accounting & finance management role, demonstrating continuous professional growth
  • Previous experience in a consumer products and/or retail company is required. Food and Beverage background preferred but not required.
  • Previous experience with and knowledge of the Quickbooks Accounting Systems. Excellent communication and presentation skills.
  • Previous early stage, investor back brand highly preferred.
  • Excellent leadership, managerial, organizational, interpersonal and computer skills. Proficient in MS Excel and MS Word

Sales Manager – Western US

Location: Western US                        Status: Full-Time        Start Date: Fall 2017

Foodstirs is disrupting the baking mix category with USDA Organic and Non-GMO Project Verified baking mixes that are superior on every level. The brand meticulously sources each of its ingredients based on four core principles: ultra-sustainability, easy-to-make, accessibly priced, and incredibly delicious from-scratch taste. In addition to regenerative and direct-sourced ingredients, the brand uses organic identity-preserved unbleached heirloom flour, chemical-free dyes, and is free from artificial preservatives and flavors.  Our products are sold nationwide at retailers including Whole Foods Market, Sprouts, Target, Kroger, Safeway, Amazon and many more. 

Position Scope:  The Sales Manager, Western Region will work closely with the national sales director on the planning, management and execution of Retail Sales for this part of the country.

Major Responsibilities:

  1. Planning: Support building of annual trade promotion calendar for region across retail customers
  2. Identifying and executing on opportunities to expand the sales of Foodstirs within multiple retail channels throughout the West (as far as Texas excluding Chicago), which includes working with Foodstirs broker and distributor network to maximize sales and distribution opportunities
  3. Managing all appointed brokers and distributors to achieve quality distribution in targeted accounts, including ensuring timely execution of new item introductions, schematic implementation and promotional programming and that they have all necessary resources required to succeed in the market place (e.g., product samples, sell sheets, promotional calendars, etc)
  4. Developing and monitoring incentive programs, contests, etc. in order to keep Foodstirs top-of-mind
  5. Ensuring that all related POS (e.g. secondary displays, shelf talkers, on-pack coupons, etc.) are ordered in the right quantities and utilized effectively in the marketplace. Requesting and analyzing distribution reports to determine market coverage and opportunities for future growth
  6. Conducting store audits (with broker management and/or field sales reps where possible) to ensure merchandising standards are adhered to and promotional programming is being executed
  7. Identifying and attending (i) trade shows and (ii) sampling opportunities (whether or not on-premises) to represent the brand and develop sales opportunities

Essential Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Marketing or related field
  • High-level experience in the Food Industry (Whole Foods, Sprouts, NCGA, INFRA, Safeway, Kroger, Ahold) with CPG selling background in dry baking mix and center store spaces highly preferred
  • Established relationships and demonstrated success working with key retail accounts along with the leading brokers and distributors (UNFI, KeHe, DPI, DOT Foods, etc), servicing these channels
  • Strong planning and organizational along with excellent interpersonal, written/oral communication and presentation skills, including full competence with Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Word and Outlook)
  • Proven Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively
  • Demonstrated ability to excel in a hands-on, fast paced entrepreneurial environment
  • Highly adaptable & resourceful
  • Proficient in Syndicated Data Tools (SPINS, Nielsen, Retailer Portals)
  • Ability to travel extensively throughout the western United States

Operations Coordinator

Position Scope:  The Operations Coordinator will work closely with the VP, Operations in the planning, management and execution of Operations initiatives within the organization.  This individual will support the management of the supply chain including purchasing, procurement, production, logistics, innovation and quality control.  

Major Responsibilities:

  1. Production & Demand Planning: Coordinate and execute production priorities with Co-manufacturer to meet stock demands.
  2. Metrics & Reports: Create, maintain and evolve reporting related to operations activities.
  3. Innovation & Quality Control: Provide cost comparison evaluations for new vendors, suppliers and projects. Manage expectations to consistently deliver the highest quality product.
  4. Purchasing and Procurement: Establish new vendor/supplier relationships and manage existing relationships with current vendors and suppliers.  Source the most sustainable ingredients in the world.
  5. Documentation & Organization: Create, manage and implement standard operating procedures.
  6. Supply Chain and Distribution: Work directly with 3PL to monitor inventory and manage order fulfillment for major retail and online customers.  Coordinate shipments of raw material and finished goods for on time deliveries.
