Apple Crumb Cake

Apple Crumb Cake

Preheat oven 350 degrees.

Grease a 9x13 baking pan with baking spray, or use butter and dust with some flour. Set aside.

In large mixing bowl, prepare Foodstirs Simply Sweet Vanilla Cake mix, as per instructions. Pour batter into your baking pan.

Peel and chop three apples and place in blender. Add apple cider to blender and “chop” the apples until they look like apple sauce. Remove from blender and place in a medium bowl.

Add ½ teaspoon of nutmeg, 2 tablespoons of cinnamon, and about 2 Tablespoons of your brown sugar.

Mix by hand with a spoon until incorporated. Mix will turn brown and look dark in color. Set aside.

Peel and coarsely chop your remaining four apples, place in a medium bowl. Add your granulated sugar, remaining brown sugar, salt, remaining nutmeg, vanilla, lemon juice, mix until apples are coated.

Melt your butter and pour over apple mixture. Add flour and mix gently with your hands, creating a “crumb”. Set aside.

Pour your “apple sauce” mixture on top of your cake batter and spread it coating the top of the pan. Add your crumb topping over your cake and applesauce mixture. Spread it evenly until the pan is completely coated.

Bake for 25-30 mins, or until toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.

Let cake cool for 15-30 minutes. Best served warm (15 mins cooling time). Dust with powdered sugar.
